Thorney Road
Street guide, Emsworth
Thorney Road runs south from the Hermitage area towards the harbour shore and in the direction of Thorney Island, the large low-lying island that forms the southern boundary of Emsworth's harbour waters. The road provides access to the coastal paths that lead around the harbour towards Thornham and the wider Chichester Harbour AONB. The road is residential in its northern sections and becomes more rural as it heads south towards the shore. The views from the southern end of Thorney Road, looking across the harbour towards Thorney Island, are among the finest in the area. The road is popular with walkers, cyclists, and birdwatchers heading for the harbour shore. At low tide, the mudflats here attract large numbers of wading birds, and the area is significant for overwintering species.
