Church Lane
Street guide, Emsworth
Church Lane runs east from the town centre towards Warblington, passing St James Church and connecting to the older settlement at Warblington with its ancient parish church and castle ruins. The lane has a semi-rural character in its eastern sections, with hedgerows and open views across fields to the harbour. The western end, near St James Church, is more built-up, with residential properties and the church itself. St James Church is the main Church of England parish church for Emsworth and has served the town since the medieval period. Church Lane provides one of the most pleasant walks in the town, taking you from the town centre through to the quiet, rural atmosphere of Warblington in a matter of minutes. The contrast between the two ends of the lane captures something of Emsworth's character: a town that sits between the urban and the rural.
