Parks and Green Spaces in Emsworth
Recreation grounds, nature reserves, and open spaces
Emsworth is well served by green spaces for a town of its size, with the harbour shore, nature reserves, and recreation grounds providing outdoor space for residents and visitors. The Emsworth Recreation Ground off Lumley Road is the main community park, with sports pitches, a children's playground, and open space for informal recreation. The ground is the venue for the annual Emsworth Show and other community events.
Brook Meadow is a community-managed nature reserve in the heart of the town, occupying the low-lying land where the Hermitage Stream and the River Ems converge before flowing into the harbour. The meadow provides walking paths through wildflower grassland, wet woodland, and streamside habitats. It is managed by the Brook Meadow Conservation Group and is an important green lung for the town.
Hampshire Farm Meadows, to the south of the town, provides a larger area of open grassland and wetland with views across the harbour. The reserve is managed for conservation and public access and is popular with walkers and dog walkers.
Slipper Mill Pond and Peter Pond provide waterside open spaces within the town. The paths around Slipper Mill Pond are well maintained and provide a gentle walk with views across the tidal millpond.
Nore Barn woods, along the eastern harbour shore, provide a wooded area for walking, with ancient oaks and a shoreline path that is part of the harbour circuit.
For formal gardens and more manicured landscapes, Stansted House to the north offers walled gardens and parkland open to the public on selected days.
The combination of harbour shore, nature reserves, meadows, and woodland within walking distance of the town centre gives Emsworth a relationship with its natural environment that is one of the town's most valued characteristics.
