New Brighton
Edwardian and inter-war residential area north-east of the centre, with affordable housing and good access to the station and town.
New Brighton is a residential area to the north-east of Emsworth town centre, largely developed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The name was adopted with the optimism typical of Victorian-era development, though New Brighton in Emsworth bears no resemblance to its Merseyside namesake. The area is characterised by Edwardian and inter-war housing, with New Brighton Road as the principal street running through it. Houses are mostly semi-detached and terraced, with modest front gardens and a consistent architectural character. The area has a quiet, suburban feel, removed from the bustle of the town centre and the harbour. It is well connected to the town by foot, with a ten-minute walk bringing you to the High Street. The railway station is within easy reach from New Brighton, making it a practical location for commuters. Properties in New Brighton tend to be more affordable than those closer to the waterfront, and the area attracts a mix of families, retirees, and commuters. The streets are residential throughout, with no commercial premises, and the character is settled and orderly. New Brighton lacks the historic charm of the town centre or the waterfront atmosphere of the harbour, but it provides solid, comfortable housing within walking distance of both.
