Lumley Area

Residential south-western area with the recreation ground, mix of Victorian and later housing, and good access to both town centre and harbour.

The Lumley area occupies the south-western part of Emsworth, between the town centre and the harbour inlet to the south. Lumley Road is the principal street, running southward from the Victoria Road junction towards the shore. The area is largely residential, with a mix of Victorian terraces, Edwardian villas, and some inter-war and post-war development. The Lord Raglan pub on Queen Street is within easy reach and serves as one of the social anchors for this part of town. Emsworth Recreation Ground is the main public green space in the area, providing sports pitches, a children's playground, and an open area for events. The annual Emsworth Show, a traditional horticultural and community show, has been held on the recreation ground for over a century. The area has good pedestrian connections to both the town centre and the harbour. Properties in the Lumley area are generally more affordable than those directly on the waterfront or on South Street, making it popular with families and first-time buyers. The streets are quiet, carrying mainly local traffic, and the area has the feel of a settled residential neighbourhood where people know their neighbours and walk to the shops.
